The Patented Technology

 

Smartap’s solution enables users to double their typing speed in comparison to the regular “MultiTap” method, which is currently used by the vast majority of mobile phone users. This is achieved without the use of a dictionary, a predictive text algorithm (PTA) or any other language based algorithm.

 

Smartap’s solution is based on the company’s patented data entry technology. The cornerstone of the Smartap technology is the reassignment of the alphabet onto all 12 keys of the numeric keypad - instead of the currently used 8 keys (50% more keys are used). This enables users to tap once to enter a letter in 75% of the cases, and tap twice in the rest of the cases. The method also provides a simple solution that enables switching to any mode within a single key-press (upper case, symbols, second language and numerals). Applying this solution to cell phones requires a simple software change. No hardware modifications are required. The technology is applicable to all languages.

 

The new layout is self explanatory, highly intuitive and easy to use. Recent international market trials were conducted in the USA, UK, Denmark and Israel, some of which conducted independently by a top tier handset manufacturer. Trials indicated that users experienced faster typing vs. using MultiTap after typing merely five sentences! Smartap solution is intuitive, it requires no learning, only getting used to. After one hour of usage, participants experienced 45% faster typing with Smartap over MultiTap, a method they have been using for years.

 

Smartap solution could also be used in conjunction with a PTA and show a dramatic improvement in word prediction due to the improved letter spreading over the keypad.
